Roberta Engleman has been an indexer for the University Press of Florida for more than seven years. She has intelligently created indexes for our books, consistently met our deadlines, incorporated the author's suggestions and corrections into the index, and brought possible errors in the text to the attention of Editorial and the author.
Her most recent index for me was for a volume titled Lincoln's Lost Legacy: The Republican Party and the African American Vote, 1928-1952. She has also indexed for me an edited volume on the Mideast, an analysis of socioeconomics in Cuba, a memoir by an African American fighting with the Union in the Civil War, and a Bernard Shaw work.
Her experience and judgment have made her one of the first people we call on when an author requires a professional. The range of the subjects she has analyzed and organized to the author's satisfaction and the reader's edification includes archaeology, music, literature, and history, and she handles both text and graphics (photos, line drawings, tables, charts) with insight and good judgment. We consider her for both scholarly and trade books in our list.
We have asked her for names of other indexers when she is busy and our other reliable indexers are booked. Our indexer file noted of one indexer (not one she recommended): "She's not nearly as good as someone like Roberta Engleman." The same file also notes of Roberta herself: "Tried and true."
